Leap

Ages 5-7

Teaches a strong emphasis on body awareness, posture and stretching. This program teaches 5-7-year-olds fundamentals of classical ballet and jazz, introductory terminology, and builds rhythmic and muscular development.  Both jazz and ballet are required for this program.

Fundamental I (Ages 5-6): 45 minute Ballet class per week, 45 minute Jazz class per week

Ballet

Classes focus on correct posture, turn-out and placement. More discipline and etiquette will be utilized to help students maintain focus and learn a variety of new coordinations. Students will learn how to stand in a poised manner at the beginning and end of every exercise, learn different ways to move through space, become aware of spacing relative to other students, and begin understanding the concepts of musicality and phrasing.

Jazz

Classes include isolations, fundamental stretch and strengthening, and the ability to differentiate different styles and ways of moving. A focus on basic direction changes, as well as level changes, will be emphasized. Musicality and phrasing will be introduced in choreography to represent different styles of Jazz.

Fundamental II (Ages 6-7): 1 hour Ballet class per week, 1 hour Jazz class per week

Ballet

Classes will be continuing to refine the concepts from the previous level with a focus on correct posture, turn-out and placement. Ballet etiquette will be emphasized to help students learn new coordinations and create a positive atmosphere. Students will learn how to stand in a poised manner at the beginning and end of every exercise, learn different ways to move through space, become aware of spacing relative to other students, and begin understanding the concepts of musicality and phrasing.  In Fundamentals II, dancers will start to work in more detail on expressing the quality of the music through movement.

Jazz

Classes will continue to refine the concepts from the previous level. Classes include isolations, fundamental stretch and strengthening, and the ability to differentiate various styles and ways of moving. A focus on basic direction changes as well as level changes will be emphasized. Progressions combining 2-3 movements will be introduced along with more turning and jumping concepts. Musicality and phrasing will be used in choreography to represent different styles of Jazz.

Open Classes (Ages 5-7):

Tap

Tap classes focus on the fundamentals of tap including, rhythm patterns, weight shift, balance, tap terminology, and sound quality.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is an expressive form of dance that combines ballet and jazz techniques. Steps taught at this level will focus on reflecting the meaning of the lyrics in a particular song, with emphasis on expressive and bold emotional quality using strong and graceful movements.
